How to Re-cover an Office Chair

This is our mystery chair. We found it in the garage one day and I put it together. Several years later, it looks like this. Since it's going to be in my room, I decided to re-cover it.

First I attempted to unscrew everything... okay, it wasn't really that hard, I was just fooling around.

Once the chair was apart I placed it on my fabric and cut out a piece for the seat, remembering to give it more because of the way it curved. I then pinned the sides and corners in. This was best done by doing one side and then the opposite side.

The corners were tricky, but I found it was easier to handle if I cut down the middle and two smaller cuts on either side, and then folded them over.

I then cut a piece for the bottom, hemmed it, and stapled it to the chair with a staple gun.

The back I didn't get any pictures of, but it was fairly simple. I looked for the seams that were already on the chair, and then cut out my pieces accordingly, giving an extra two inches on each side for where I would sew it. I then pinned all the pieces together onto the chair, placing the pins exactly where I needed to sew so it wouldn't be too baggy or too tight. One piece at a time, I sewed the parts together on the sewing machine, placed the finished cover over the chair, and sewed the last little bit by hand. I then cut holes for the screws and assembled it all together. It now looks like this:

And that's how you re-cover an office chair. The end.
