Trip to New Orleans

Well, I got back from Louisiana last Sunday night. We had lots of fun. Here's what we did.

Day 1: On our way there we had an adventure in the airport. Our plane had been switched out for a smaller plane so we had to take a later flight to New Orleans. I hung out with all my cousins, of which I have many, and played Apples to Apples and a game we don't really know the name of but I call it written telephone.

Day 2: The next day, we all walked a ways. It's very lovely there, with big trees on both sides of the road with roots that had torn up the sidewalk in places. It's so moist there, that there were ferns growing on the trunks of the trees (as shown in picture).

After a while we took a trolley to the french quarter and looked around. The pictures below show (1) a trolley and (2) some of my family waiting around for the rest of the family to catch up.

We ate lunch at Mothers where I believe everyone had Poe boy sandwiches which originated there. That day we stayed up and had some disgusting apple cider and made a toast to the New Years.

Day 3: That morning we went back to the french quarter and ate Beignet donuts at Cafe' Du Monde (as shown below).

Then we walked around the french quarter some more and that night we ate kings cake, which is a lot like a bunch of cinnamon rolls with frosting on top, stuck together to make a long, thin, circle. Sometimes people put a filling inside. This one had strawberry filling (bleck). Anyway, you stick a baby inside and whoever gets the baby in their piece is king for the day or something. We didn't do the king for the day but we did use the baby.

After that we went to a jazz concert. At first no one wanted to go except Marisa. Then Jon decided he would go if she went and Sarah said she would go if Jon went and I said I would go if Sarah went and eventually everyone was going to go. It was pretty good. I think it could have been better. Here's a picture of everyone waiting in line for it.

Day 4: That morning we met one of our step cousins, Lydia. She's nine years old.

Then she and us Bryans went to the french quarter for the hundredth time and Ben and Kris smashed pennies for souvenirs and bought some Tabasco in a Tabasco shop in which Lydia continued to eat the sample pretzels. We had to drag her out and hold her. We ate lunch at a hotel where Sarah, Dad, Ben and Kris had Muffeletta sandwiches which I think originated in Louisiana, or at least it's the only place that makes them. I had pizza. When we went home, Sarah and I played hide-and-seek with Lydia.

Day 5: On Sunday we all went home. Ben, Kris and I had to go backwards to Atlanta, Georgia and from there to Ontario, CA. It's good to be home.

Note to family: If there's anything I missed or had in the wrong place, let me know.
